Lions Quarterback Shaun Hill
The atmosphere was glum in the Lions locker room after a 45-24 humiliation in front of a national television audience and a Thanksgiving Day sellout crowd of 60,965 at Ford Field. After an outstanding performance in the first half, leading New England 17-10, they faltered in the third quarter and crumbled in the fourth giving up three straight touchdowns.
Patriot’s quarterback, Tom Brady, made a season high of four touchdown passes in the second half, while the Lions suffered one interception, dropped passes, penalties, and poor judgment to disappoint the Detroit fans once again.
Alphonso Smith, who has intercepted five passes this season and solidified a trouble spot at cornerback for the Lions, tried to put the entire weight of the loss on himself. “I take full responsibility,” he said. “I’m a thumb pointer. I’m a guy I’m never going to point any fingers because the reality of the situation was I pretty much gave the Patriots the whole game. Not (Shaun) Hill, not the offense, not (Kyle) Vanden Bosch, (Ndamukong) Suh and the defense. Me. I cost the entire city a celebration today because I’m pretty sure everyone was going to celebrate.
But Shaun Hill, who has done an outstanding job filling in for injured starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, blamed himself for a third-quarter interception that ignited a three-touchdown attack from the Patriots.
There was enough blame to go around and each player will be looking at his own performance to see how improvements can be made.
