The Bears’ search for a backup quarter back intensified after Caleb Hanie suffered a shoulder injury against San Diego last Saturday.
The Bears had been looking at Todd Collins to take the number two spot. However, negotiations with Collins broke down after the Bears rejected a request by Collins for a signing bonus. “We declined their offer based on the fact there were no guarantees involved,” Collins’ told NFL.com.
Meanwhile, Hanie is optimistic about his recovery. He will miss the game against the Oakland Raiders, but he doesn’t believe his recovery will be a long one. “What I have is not a season-ending injury, not half-season, not even beginning of the season. I am definitely not worried about losing my position.” Hanie said. Hanie hopes to improve upon his last season’s QB rating of 10.7.
