Fantasia Barrino, the 2004 American Idol winner, checked in to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville Monday night after allegedly taking an overdose of aspirin and sleeping pills.
The news comes one day after the R&B singer found herself entangled in divorce proceedings of North Carolina couple Antwuan Cook and his estranged wife Paula, who alleged Barrino had an affair with Cook after an August 2009 meeting. Paula Cook claims they filmed their alleged bedroom antics.
Barrino has denied the accusations claiming she had nothing to do with the divorce. Her lawyer, Gena Morris, accused Cook of seeking to sensationalize the litigation and attempting to draw the attention of the tabloids. She called the effort by Cook, “disgraceful.”
Barrino said later, “I can’t thank my fans enough for their prayers and support during such a challenging time. It has given me the motivation to get back to work and honor the commitments I made to promote Back To Me.”
