Michael Vick Named Starting Quarterback For The Eagles

Coach Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles named Michael Vick the starting quarterback for the team this week. In Tuesday night’s press conference, Andy Reid repeatedly said the Eagles change at quarterback wasn’t about Kevin Kolb.

Reid thinks Vick is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but Reid indicated there were other reasons for the switch as well. He was concerned about how Kolb would be treated as a starter.

“A young quarterback needs time to mature as he grows in the game. I don’t think Kolb has lost one thing. He’s a franchise quarterback. He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles,” Reid said.  “But I think it’s a different deal when you go out there and can’t make a mistake or you’re going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.”

Throughout his career, Vick has proven that he can start in the NFL and be one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the game when healthy. With a young receiving and rushing core of players, that has value.
