The Vikings and Patriots closed a deal that would move wide receiver, Randy Moss, to Minnesota. The Vikings sent a third-round pick to the Patriots in return for Moss, who becomes a key weapon for Minnesota QB Brett Favre.
The Vikings have been seeking a replacement for Pro Bowl receiver Sidney Rice, who because of hip surgery in August will miss most of the first half of the season. Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is a long-time friend of Moss and has been lobbying for years for the chance to play with his former NFC North rival.
Moss spent the first seven years of his career in Minnesota where he caught 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 TDs from 1998-2004.
Final details of the agreement were rushed through so that Moss could be brought up to speed for the Vikings’ next game, Monday night at the Jets. But the more interesting match-up could come in less than four weeks, when the Vikings travel to New England, Moss’s team for the past three-plus seasons, for a Halloween afternoon game.
