Prince William, Kate Middleton Engaged
Celebrity engagements are on the rise this fall. The latest announcement came as Britain’s Prince William became engaged to Kate Middleton last Tuesday, according to the British royal family.
The on-again, off-again relationship is finally on for real, much to the delight of the British media and Royalty watchers. Rumors have been rife for years that they have been close to marriage.
The prince and Middleton, both 28, have been dating since 2003. He met Middleton in 2002 when both were students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. They started dating a year later.
William popped the question in October in Kenya, and the two will marry in “spring or summer” 2011 in London. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.”
Rumor mills and speculators are wondering if next summer’s wedding will live up to the example set by Prince William’s parents, whose marriage on the morning of July 29, 1981, has long been dubbed the “wedding of the century.”
The Prime Minister was one of the first to congratulate the pair. David Cameron hailed the engagement as “a great day for our country.” “It’s great to have a piece of unadulterated good news that everyone can celebrate,” he added. “I’m sure it will be something where the country will come together.”
