Air Ambulance Professionals is Re-Accredited by CAMTS

Air Ambulance Professionals Inc (AAPI) is an Air Medical Transport Program based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Established in 1989, Air Ambulance Professionals has safely transported over 7000 critical care patients throughout the Caribbean (Including Cuba), North, Central, and South America.

As a “Pioneer in the Air Medical Transport Industry,” AAPI was the FIRST program in the WORLD to be accredited by both CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) in 2007 and EURAMI (European Air Medical Institute) 2008, and the ONLY program based in Florida to achieve this accomplishment. In full compliance of specific policies and procedures set forth by both bodies, AAPI provides the highest standard of patient care, education, and transport safety in the air medical transport industry on a global level.

On June 10th-11th, Air Ambulance Professionals (AAPI) underwent their scheduled biennial CAMTS re-accreditation site survey. This site survey included an in depth audit of the program which included, the safety management system, initial and continued education of medical flight crew, compliance with state and federal regulations, and the quality of patient care delivered .

For those unfamiliar with CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Transport Systems), the organization serves as a voluntary standard writing and verification organization. The goal of CAMTS is to provide standards that reflect a high quality, safe, and stable medical transport service. Some of the values include: fairness, ethics, consistency, accountability, and the patient and transport safety focus (Frazier, 2010).

Although not mandatory nationwide, states including: Colorado, Maryland, Utah, Washington, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Oklahoma require all medical transport programs to be CAMTS accredited in order to qualify for a state license. Other states including Texas and Rhode Island have adopted the CAMTS standards in their own policies and procedures to be considered for state licensure.

On July 17, 2010, Air Ambulance Professionals, Inc was notified of being RE-ACCREDITED as a “Fully Accredited” Air Medical Transport Program. This re-accreditation represents Air Ambulance Professionals continuous commitment to provide the highest level of patient care and overall transport safety, remaining consistent with Air Ambulance Professionals’ slogan “Caring at a higher level….”
