Weight Loss Resolution

If you have made another New Years’ resolution to lose weight, it may be easier than you think. According to recent research, the average person makes 200 decisions every day that will influence his or her weight loss. Most of these are simple, almost subconscious choices that can easily be changed if you simply pay attention to what you are doing.

Here are a few things you can do to make weight loss easier.

  • Dish your plate up in the kitchen. If you don’t have the food in front of you then you are less likely to take seconds, or just “finish off that last little bit.”
  • Getting too much or too little sleep. People who don’t get enough sleep get fat because they tend to eat more and expend less energy because they are tired. Those who sleep too much don’t burn enough calories.
  • Do other activities while watching TV (besides eating). TV watching is about the least active activity people engage in. Washing dishes, cleaning, or even exercising while watching TV will burn a lot more calories. Even reading burns more calories than watching TV.
  • Do it with a friend. Having the encouragement and accountability of a friend will greatly increase your chances of success.
  • Drinking soda or other sugar drinks can add empty calories. Drinking just 2 cans of soda a day can increase your risk of obesity by 32.8%
  • Taking big bites and eating fast can easily lead to obesity from overeating, because your stomach becomes over full before your brain can receive the “full” signal.
  • Eat more fat. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but fat provides more sustainable calories. Eating too many carbohydrates causes spikes and drops in blood sugar resulting in hunger and sluggishness.

These simple changes can get you well on the road to a healthy lifestyle.
